Quadratic Equations - For this assignment the students were to complete the quadratic equation in the three different ways that you are able to use. The first student solved by factoring, the second student solved by completing the square, and the third student used the quadratic formula to solve the equation for the x solutions. The students are learning how to go step by step in finding the answer without skipping steps which is a useful tool in mathematics because even without getting the right answer students can be graded on there work along with getting the correct answer. This is better than other types of projects because it forces the students to show all the work and explain how they came to their answers while allowing other students to see how they performed their work.
Linear Equation - The assignment is to figure out the linear equation that would be given and graph the line while also finding different points on the line. The students had to complete the graph and fill in the points and they learned how to graph the linear equation from being given different parts of an equation. This Voice Thread is a good way for students to see how it is done while also being able to explain what they were thinking while they did their graphs so if they made a mistake the teacher can find out where the mistake was. This can be better than other projects because the students can explain their actions in words instead of having to write out what they did step by step on paper.
Quadratic Formula - This Voice Thread allows students to learn the quadratic formula and how to use it. It gives the standard for of a quadratic equation and allows students to follow the teacher while listening, reading and still being able to write down what they need too. They can pause at any time they need to and are also able to comment on the video if they have any questions on the topic. The students will learn how the quadratic formula works and how the answers come out of using it. The worth of this Voice Thread isn't feel important to the students need as compared to other types of projects that could possibly be better but this is a great way to show how the quadratic formula can be used.
